About Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha a.k.a Withania Somnifera botanically is part of the nightshade family. This plant's roots and leaves both have medicinal purposes and have been used in Ayurveda for more than 2,500 years. It is vastly used to benefit the immune and neurological, endocrine, and reproductive systems.

Did you know back in the day when a girl began her periods, they started taking Ashwagandha which helped them with the stress and daily hormone fluctuations?

Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb that has vast health benefits from anti-inflammatory to strengthening your immune system. For me particularly, it has aided in controlling depression and anxiety that is a daily war between me and my mind. With the help of meditation, the right foods, and Ashwagandha, I can honestly say I am able to stay away from any depressants.

Here are a few more benefits of Ashwagandha:

(Please check with your health professionals before taking any herbs)

1. Thyroid Health Improvements

It is great for both underactive and overactive thyroid conditions. My thyroid has been out of wack since cancer, and even though I am taking a low dose of thyroid meds, I have not had to up my medication.

2. Adrenal Fatigue

Since our adrenals are responsible for releasing hormones and responding to stress, Ashwagandha may help with supporting and relieving the fatigue.

3. Aids In Managing Stress and Anxiety

This is one of the most popular uses of Ashwagandha. Without any side effects, this magical herb can aid in managing this major side effect caused by hormone blockers. I can personally speak from my experience on this, with the help of meditation, the right foods, and Ashwagandha it has helped me tremendously to control the horrifying feeling of depression. Although, I am not going to lie there are days I seriously can't handle it I have learned how to overcome those days.

After your body goes through stressful treatments like surgeries and chemotherapy, the last thing you want to do is give it more stress. as anyone who has been on this journey knows, every day is a new day and every day some side effect or another shows up reminding us of what we have been through. But staying focused, taking care of yourself, and showing yourself love is the biggest gift you can give yourself and the people around you.

4. Some other Benefits include:

  • Balances Blood Sugar

  • Improves Memory & Brain Health

  • Boosts Immune Function

  • Increases Energy
